B&W HTM1D

The B&W HTM1D is the largest center speaker available in Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) top of the line 800 series of home audio speakers. Contained in the main Matrix cabinet are three 8" Rohacell cone bass drivers with mushroom type diaphram construction, as well as dual rear-firing flowports.

The Matrix cabinet uses interlocking panel-bracing to eliminate unwanted cabinet resonances that may color the sound. On top of the main cabinet, there is a sphere/tube "head", which contains a 6" Kevlar cone midrange driver. The Kevlar cone has FST technology, which essentially uses a foam ring allowing the cone to float freely for an improved cone response. And finally, sitting on top of the sphere is a freemounted 1" diamond aluminum dome tweeter contained in a Nautilus tapering tube. The B&W HTM1D is intended to be floor mounted on its four heavy-duty height-adjustable feet, which allows the speaker to be angled towards the listeners. There is a hardened spike on one end for carpet, and a rubber pad on the other to protect wooden floors. The cabinet is available in three real wood veneers: cherrywood, rosenut and black ash; and comes with a removable black cloth grill.

The diamond dome tweeter is an upgrade from the lower end center speakers in this series. This tweeter-on-top design eliminates reflections that may occur if the driver where placed in a conventional cabinet. The efficient mechanical design of this speaker allows for a simple and efficient crossover, reducing the electrical processing impact on the sound.
